The Writing on the Wall

Updated: Jan 21, 2019

5 Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lamp stand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. 6 His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking

Daniel 5:29

King Belshazzar had thrown a huge feast inviting many of his friends and colleagues. However, while drinking, he ordered the goblets to be brought in from the temple of God so all of his guests could drink from them while they worshiped their silver and gold. Suddenly, the hand of God used a finger to write a message on the wall directed to the King. The King saw the writing and knew it was important but could not understand what the message meant. Daniel, a holy man of God was ultimately brought in to interpret the writing of God

Now, I certainly could lead us in a discussion titled, "Have you ever seen the writing on the wall, by the Lord, who showed up and sent you a supernatural message?" That would be a discussion! However, today, the Lord wants to direct this horn oil to all of those who have missed God's signals at some point in their life, missed HIS signals to stop doing what you are doing, Missed the signal to take care of HIS temple, Missed the signal to go another direction because this way is a dead end, just missed his call backs and definitely His invitations.

Clearly, as you read the story for yourself, God showed up to give a message to the King due to disobedience and disregard for HIS temple of holy things. Wow, that same God is watching what we are doing with HIS Holy Temple. Have we disregarded what God sees as holy unto HIM?

We often miss the signals or God's warnings to turn our lives around due to our stubborn disobedience and lack of regard for HIS holiness. The Lord has stated without a doubt in the Word, 1Peter 1:16, Be holy, because I am holy. Peter continues by saying that we should live in reverent fear during our stay on earth. Yes, it is a tall order, but nothing is too hard if we include God in the process. Jesus wants to be an ever present help in every area of our lives. Just ask HIM!

Why fast for 21 days and live the remaining 344 unholy? Did we miss HIS message?

Fasting does not make you holy, it brings revelation of what you need to do to remain more holy in your daily life. However, when you are disobedient, expect a visit from God in some form or fashion. As in our story today, PLEASE don't model the King. Let us not taunt God daily with our unholy conduct. God's Words to us are clear in, 2 Chronicles 33:10-13, that in summary, HE will provide a warning before punishment.

When the Lord warns you to be obedient, do Psalm 37:3- Trust in the Lord and do Good!

Can't you see the writing on the wall? God will chastise those whom he Loves..(Hebrews 12:6)

God loves you and will discipline you. It is your choice, where you stand with your Heavenly Father.

Position yourself for Praise not Chastisement!

Remain alert in your walk. Don't allow pride, anger, unforgiveness and rebellion to close your eyes and ears and cause you to miss God's warnings to change. The Lord wants to dwell in your faithfulness with a message of loving kindness. Let God's message to you be like the one to Jesus," This is my son, in whom I am well pleased!"
