Horn of Oil Day 12
There is no temptation taken you but such is common to man: but God is faithful. He won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities. Instead, with the temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you will be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
Thank you, Paul, for reminding us that temptation comes to everyone! No man is immune from sin! Baptism is not a shot to immunize you from back sliding. When you get a flu shot it does not mean you will never get sick.
We must never think that our protection from sin or trials comes from external ceremonies created by man! (consecrations, baptisms, ordinations) We can be baptized into Christ and still live a life that is not pleasing unto God, still have money issues, family issues, and children problems. Paul demonstrates earlier in the chapter how the Israelites, who knew God, still had problems and came under attack and suffered from temptation to turn to the world for relief. Unfortunately, they did not heed God’s instructions and several generations died in the wilderness because they did not use what God gave them! Paul concedes that just because you gave your life to Christ, got baptized and received the right hand of fellowship, does not give you an automatic shield against warfare, trials and strife. Religious ceremonies do not stop you from being tempted in life to go back to the world’s way of solving your needs.
The Lord is interested in how we live our lives! (John 15:5) The Lord wants us to live an abundant life. (John 10:10) However, there is one who wants to steal our abundant life from us, and he is always watching to find our weakness. What will make you turn against God’s way? The devil will use whatever you think you need as a temptation to lure you to turn your back on God. But God is faithful, as we come to know HIM, our desire to please HIM will increase not decrease. When we grow to love Jesus, greater is HE that grows in us than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4) Thus, like Jesus, when we are tempted, the Word of God shall be our shield to resist it! Jesus, the Word of God. (John 1:14)
Temptation comes when we are weak, when we are wavering, when we are hungry, or thirsting for something to please us. That is common to man, we all have times when this happens in our life. Once you become a Christian, it does not make you exempt from problems. (1Peter 4:13) Christ suffered in this world. We who are going through, guess what? We are not alone, we share our suffering with lots of others at the same time. (1Peter 5:9) Will those who are going through or just went through raise your hand!
Paul reassures us by saying that God is faithful. HE is dependable and reliable to not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able. Temptation to do wrong will come! The revelation from this statement is, God knows our strengths and weaknesses and HE knows exactly what we can handle. There is a greater in us that we don’t use until we are in a trial. Have you noticed that you are still standing? You are still here! The devil tempted you in an issue that he thought would take you out, kill your spirit, wipe out your faith. Well, it FAILED! Although you fell, although you thought you were going to die, God knew you were strong enough to get back up! Why? The Christ in us, is hope. (Colossians 1:27) We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us? (Philippians 4:13) On the other side of the problem, we realize with Christ, we are stronger than we think to handle whatever temptation came to ruin our faith. It may take a trial in our life to show us how to endure hardship. (James 1:2-4) As believers, each temptation teaches us to hang in there and let Jesus take the wheel and guide us toward victory!
We escape the shame and the pain by leaning on the shoulders of God! We can escape with Jesus! HIS promises mend our brokenness, HIS encouragement keeps us steadfast, HIS hope helps us get back up to try again. Thank you, Jesus for you are the Word for our Escape! There is no dying in Christ because there is nothing too hard for Jesus to help us overcome!
When I feel alone- Jesus will never leave me (Matthew 28:20)
When I feel I am losing- With Jesus, I am more than a conqueror in the fight (Romans 8:37)
When I have sinned- Jesus loves to forgive, HIS, love covers a multitude of sin (1Peter 4:8)
When I am lost- Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6)
When I am sick- By Jesus’ stripes I am healed (Isaiah 53:5)
When I am battling finances- Jesus shall provide for all of my needs according to his riches (Philippians 4:19)
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
We can escape through Jesus! When we are tempted in our situations to turn to the world, turn to Jesus, HIS Words will help us to escape!
We can’t fast without Jesus! We have been fasting for over 10 days. Temptation is lurking in the rear mirror to steer you back to the things you know you are not to eat. Suddenly, cravings will come from out of nowhere, but use this time to practice when temptation comes, to turn to the Word of God for escape! Jesus promises, you will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)
You are stronger than you think but God knows your real strength to overcome. HE already gave you the escape; HIS Son!
